“We put Jersey on the map” is the start
of the narration to the critically acclaimed show, Jersey Boys,
being shown at the Palazzo Hotel and Casino. This Tony Award winning
musical tells the story of Frankie Valli, Tommy DeVito, Nick Massi
and Bob Gaudio, otherwise known as Frankie Valli and the Four
Seasons. Jersey Boys begins with the day to day lives of these men
growing up in blue collar Newark, New Jersey and seamlessly takes
the audience through the journey of how they became one of the
greatest pop groups of all time. |
|
Familiar tunes such as “Sherry”,
“December 1963“, “Big Girls Don’t Cry” and “Can’t Take My Eyes Off
of You” are performed with beautiful harmonies and Valli’s signature
falsetto with gentle choreography that allows the music to take
center stage. Jersey Boys excites the audience with the glamour of
hard-earned celebrity and catchy songs, yet also portrays the human
side of the famous quartet, touching upon damaged relationships and
unexpected death, as well as the inevitable turmoil that happens
when four artists try to coexist in an environment of rapidly
increasing money and fame. Each member of the Four Seasons is given
a chance to narrate a different part of the show, and so we are
given four very different points of view. Jersey Boys ends with a 20
year flash forward into the future where the original four members
of Frankie Valli and the Four Seasons are being inducted into the
Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. Valli ends his narration by saying that
he is “still chasing the music”, an honorable end to an era of pop
music that will not soon be forgotten.
