Despite being denied a $25 million loan from the City of Las Vegas to help finish the Asian-themed hotel-casino late last year, work still continues on the property’s distinctive red-glass curtain wall.
Though recent pictures show the mid-rise hotel tower will soon be completely clad, much of the property—including the casino area, which is still open to the elements—has a long ways to go. Considering the hotel is supposed to open around July 2016, and the interior still needs to be fitted out, the developers are cutting it close.
Will North Strip catch a break, or will it continue to be the neglected middle child, stuck between the booming southern part of the Strip and resurgent Downtown/Fremont Street? If this dragon is indeed lucky, it might bring some fire into the area and help its struggling neighbor, SLS, stay afloat until Resorts World and Alon are completed in the next few years. Time—mere months—will indeed tell.
