And now The Phantom of the Opera has arrived in Las Vegas! To bring such
a venerable show permanently to Las Vegas would require a spectacular
theater to house it in, and
The Venetian
Resort Hotel and Casino has created
the perfect venue.
Built to look like the Paris Opera House (where the story takes place),
this $40 million dollar theater boasts state-of-the-art lighting, sound,
and a pyrotechnics system, and is an attraction in itself.
To go along with the technological upgrades the show has received, the
musical is titled Phantom: The Las Vegas Spectacular. And spectacular it
is! The special effects give the play the feel of a Hollywood movie,
with a huge chandelier that eerily floats in pieces from the ceiling,
and the Phantom able to disappear in a flash. At the height of the
Phantom's rage and the climax of the play, fireworks go off!
For Vegas audiences, Phantom has been reduced to 95 minutes and there is
no intermission. The storyline moves along quickly, but still fully
tells the story of the Phantom's mysterious past and his growing
obsession with the beautiful young opera singer Christine. All of the
songs are performed by the very vocally-talented cast, and a 19-piece
orchestra provides the music.
The period French costumes worn by the cast are stunning, and the
Phantom with his creepy mask and disfigured face will send chills down
your spine. The sets are perfect down to the smallest detail, and the
transitions from the golden opera house to the Phantom's underground
lair are seamless.
A strong cast, gripping story, and thrilling special effects make
Phantom a very enjoyable show. This is certainly one version of The
Phantom of the Opera that can only be experienced in Las Vegas! |
