R.U.N Theater, Luxor
Must be 5 years of age or older. Intended for mature audiences 13 and above.
Cirque du Soleil is shifting into high gear — and a totally new direction — with R.U.N. The show takes over the Luxor's old Criss Angel Theater, where the lobby (and even the bathrooms) have been given a themed makeover.
R.U.N. is a major break from the acrobats, whimsical settings and comedy bits that dominate most Cirque productions. The new show is designed to be an action thriller come to life with car chases, fights, stunts and even fire. The excitement unfolds in a gritty, crime-filled vision of Las Vegas, following a couple as they get in and out of danger. The action takes shape in the format of a graphic novel with much of the narrative revealed through words in comic book-like panels projected above the stage. It's just one example of the ingenuity displayed by the show's creative team, which includes groundbreaking film director Robert Rodriguez.
Especially thrilling is a simulated high-speed car chase. The art of acrobatics mixes with the art of combat as fists and falls are exchanged on the roof and hood of a vehicle. As the story nears its climax, four motorcyclists hit the stage, performing jumps and speeding up-and-down ramps. They even make their way through the audience, underscoring the production's interactive nature. Performers also make use of additional scaffold-like structures on both sides of the traditional stage.
Beyond that, we don't want to give too much away. Just know that R.U.N. is now at the top of your list of Cirque du Soleil shows to see in Las Vegas.
