Chances are you’ve heard of the famous Cirque du Soleil, but maybe you haven’t heard of the Las Vegas show that gives the world-renowned acrobats a run for their money. This is Absinthe. Picture the death-defying feats of the acrobat ring mixed with, shall we say, a large touch of cabaret thrown in. Prepare for an up close and personal show with audience participation, crazy flexible actors, and a fair share of innuendoes.
Who: Audiences have already fallen for the show’s famous Gazillionaire host and his somewhat wild assistant Penny Pibbets. Between these two and the rest of the breathtaking cast, this show continues to rise in popularity with Vegas. The Absinthe cast is part of a larger traveling circus group known as Spiegelworld. Originally opening in New York, the cast quickly found a captive audience in Las Vegas. The performers are experts at what they do. Incredible routines that include gymnastics, strength, and balance at their best continue to amaze audiences, but they don’t stop there. Aside from their physical abilities, the Absinthe cast is quickly becoming famous for their sense of humor and sexiness.
What: When the show opened in Vegas in 2011, the Vegas Seven Magazine called it “Best New Show,” critics have called it a mixture between Cirque du Soleil and the Rocky Horror Picture Show. Audiences rave at the originality, innuendo-humor, and the sheer amazing feats of Absinthe. Absinthe is redefining the Las Vegas show. Audiences of Absinthe sit in the round, and first-row sitters should beware…the cast has been known to pick their audience participation ‘volunteers’ from these seats. Thanks to the round, every seat in the tent is good, so don’t feel obligated to get the most expensive tickets.
Where: Caesars Palace won out with this one. Although Absinthe is technically a traveling circus, they have just announced that they will make Caesars their home for a little longer. You can get tickets on the Caesars website or straight from Absinthe Las Vegas. The show is stripside at The Roman Plaza within Spielgelword's intimate and unique Green Fairy Garden and the Spiegeltent! Tickets for the Absinthe extravaganza start at $149.
Audience Type: This show has received rave reviews, not only from critics but from typical audiences. Chances are you won’t want to take your kids, save this show for your next hot date that you want to impress-- some elements of Absinthe can be quite raunchy and may not be suitable for all audiences. The acrobatics are breathtaking and the humor burlesque, so expect the best of both worlds when deciding who to invite to Absinthe.
