Seeing a good show is one of the best things about being in Las Vegas and hopefully, most productions and concerts will return to full schedules at some point in 2021. The coronavirus pandemic initially prompted a full entertainment shut down, but a few productions have slowly reopened with restrictions in place. Private gatherings are currently limited to 250 people or less with exemptions that can potentially allow attendance of 10-percent capacity in large venues, which is good news for the prospect of trade shows in Las Vegas. Comedy clubs are also opening their doors for performances by national acts. Despite the vaccine rollout, COVID-19 statistics continue to be alarming and public restrictions can be revised at any given time. Tickets are currently on sale for new 2021 residencies by StingUsher, Morrisey, and the Scorpions, but if you’re eager to attend, be flexible with your plans and consider those dates tentative. Refunds will be issued for any officially canceled performances. When Vegas fully returns to its old self, the Strip will be eager to welcome back Lady Gaga, Bruno Mars, Cher, Shania Twain, Rod Stewart, and many others as top resident headliners.

When will Cirque du Soleil Return to Las Vegas?

Beatles Love

Entertainment venues in Nevada are currently allowed to accept ticket holders at 10 percent capacity, but that doesn’t mean we’ll see the return of Cirque du Soleil anytime soon in 2021. The Canadian production company filed for bankruptcy last year, laying off 3,500 employees after suspending all shows, including six Vegas residencies. The move was a way to cope with heavy debt before restructuring operations with new investors. So while Cirque will likely relaunch at some point, the shows are expensive to produce, and 10-percent capacity probably isn’t enough incentive. It would take significantly larger audiences for Cirque to rebuild staff and relaunch its Strip productions — all of which have custom-built theaters in large casino resorts. Zumanity at New York-New York has already been permanently canceled. It isn’t known at this time if all of the remaining five shows will return, but long-time money generators like O, The Beatles LOVE, and Michael Jackson ONE seem like sure bets as long as the safety of staff and ticket holders can be secured. Money loser R.U.N. was already canceled in early 2020 before the coronavirus crisis escalated. Regardless, it’s clear Cirque executives plan to move forward eventually, and when they do, Las Vegas will be a major part of the operation.
