Las Vegas is a hot destination for shows and concerts. Unfortunately, all residencies and entertainment events are currently on hold as Nevada slowly resumes business operations following the state-wide coronavirus shutdown. Tickets are on sale for some shows within the next few months,  but consider those dates tentative. Refunds will be issued for any officially cancelled performances. When Vegas fully returns to its old self, you’ll be able to count Lady Gaga, Bruno Mars, Cher, Aerosmith, Shania Twain, Christina Aguilera, Mariah Carey and Rod Stewart as top resident headliners. Sting, Keith Urban and Kelly Clarkson were expected to debut new Vegas residencies in 2020, but those have been delayed to late in the year, if not 2021.

When will Cirque du Soleil Return to Las Vegas?

Beatles Love

Coronavirus concerns continue to plague the Las Vegas Strip. Infections are on the rise this summer as hotels, restaurants, bars and pool return to business. However, the entertainment scene is much more difficult to sort out. Shows rely on paying audiences crowded together in arenas, theaters and lounges, making them high-risk locations during a pandemic. With six long-term productions in Las Vegas, Cirque du Soleil is among the entertainment companies feeling the financial burden. The Canadian business recently filed for bankruptcy and laid off 3,500 employees after suspending shows in March. Does this mean the end of Cirque for good in Las Vegas? Not likely. The bankruptcy was a way to cope with heavy debt and the company has a restructuring plan in the works with new investors. When live audiences are allowed to reconvene, Cirque is expected to rebuild its staff and relaunch its Strip productions — all of which have custom-built theaters in large casino resorts. Whether all six shows return isn’t known at this time. But long-time money generators like O, The Beatles LOVE, and Michael Jackson ONE seem like sure bets as long as the safety of staff and ticket holders can be secured. Money loser R.U.N. was already cancelled before the coronavirus crisis escalated. Regardless, it’s clear Cirque executives plan to move forward eventually and when they do, Las Vegas will be a major part of the operation.
